The Artist

Piu Nandi is a very young and talented vocalist of the younger generation of classical singers from India. Already at this young age she is well appreciated by her audience and critics for her tonal quality and the sensuousness of her voice.
She started her training with veteran Sri Ashim Das of the Kirana gharana. Thereafter she was fortunate in receiving training from Smt. Suranjana Basu of the Patiala gharana and Sri Supriyo Dutta.
Presently Piu is under the able guidance of Sri Dilip Patra, a senior Classical vocalist of Kirana Gharana and Pt. Udai Mazumdar, a senior Tabla player of Benaras Gharana who is educating her in the nuances of Indian rhythm world.
All of her teachers hold a great value in Piu’s music style and help her trying to find her own identity. Listening to Piu’s performances one can see a very pleasant blend of the various Gharanas. Blessed with a rich resonant voice, Piu’s concerts are known for her simple implementation of Ragas and her sweet voice.
Apart from being a Classical Indian vocalist Piu is also well trained in Indian light music such as Thumri, Dadra, Nazrul Geeti, Sufi Singing, Bhajan etc.
She was fortunate to have been trained under none other than Shri Biman Mukhopadhay, who is a very well-known teacher and composer from west Bengal. Piu is a recipient of the prestigious National Scholarship by The Government of India in the year 2010 and is also a regular artiste of Indian national radio and television.
In 2010 Piu made an extensive concert tour of Switzerland where she was highly appreciated by the audience as well as the music critics.
Her debut album “Kabir, Tulsi & Us” got released in the year 2011 where Piu has recorded together with many eminent Indian and Jazz musicians.
Piu has recorded her second album “Winds of Hope - India meets Africa” in Germany during her recent concert tour to Europe for her solo performances and alsowith a very versatile South African Classical Guitarist, Maestro Derek Gripper.
Her next album "Singing Strings" got released in the year 2013.
Winning many all India level competitions and performing frequently in India and abroad, Piu has done her Masters in Music from Rabindra Bharati University – Kolkata.
Piu is based in Kolkata from where she travels for her concerts, learns and imparts her knowledge with the young students.
